In Spain, maintaining a WordPress website costs between €20 and €300 per month, and slightly more for critical sites. The difference lies not in the plan name, but in what is actually done each week. Here is what each tier typically includes and what to ask before hiring.
Pricing by tier
| Monthly price | Typical inclusions | For whom |
|---|---|---|
| Under €20 | Automatic updates and hosting backups. No one checks if anything is broken. | Websites that are not critical to the business |
| €20–100 | Controlled updates, off-hosting backups, uptime and security monitoring, and a monthly report. | Most business websites |
| €100–200 | The above plus WooCommerce store management, multiple languages, more frequent weekly backups, and hours for content changes. | E-commerce stores and multilingual websites |
| Over €300 | Included development hours, rapid response times, and support for high-traffic websites. | Critical websites |
What determines the price
- Type of website. A 10-page corporate site is not the same as a store with payments or a multilingual website.
- Plugins and licenses. The more plugins, the more updates to monitor. Premium ones also need to be renewed.
- Backups. How often they are made and where they are stored. If they are only on the same hosting, when the server goes down, the backups go down too.
- Hours for changes. Some plans include content updates, while others offer only technical maintenance.
What should be included in any price
- Updates one by one, checking the website afterward. With automatic updates, if something breaks, no one knows what caused it.
- Off-hosting backups, tested: a backup that has never been restored guarantees nothing.
- Monitoring of downtime, plugins with known vulnerabilities, and suspicious files.
- A report of what has been done. If you don’t see it, you won’t know if it was done.
What is usually excluded (ask about this beforehand)
- Cleaning up after a hack (what to do if it happens to you).
- Content changes.
- Licenses for premium plugins.
- Migrations and PHP version updates.
What if I don’t do maintenance?
An outdated website eventually gets hacked: almost all attacks enter through an unpatched plugin. Cleaning an infected site, restoring Google’s trust, and notifying the Data Protection Agency if customer data was involved usually costs more than a year of maintenance. We explain this in the 6 most common WordPress hacks.
